Robert Boyd Promoted to Senior Vice President of Joseph Phelps Vineyards

St. Helena, CA, September 21, 2016— Joseph Phelps Vineyards is pleased to announce the promotion of Robert Boyd to the newly-created position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. An integral part of the winery’s management team for over five years, Boyd now assumes overall responsibility for Joseph Phelps Vineyards at both the Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast wineries. He will report to Bill Phelps, who will continue to chair the winery’s Board of Directors and transition to the new role of Executive Chairman.

“Robert has gradually taken on additional responsibilities over the last five years and has become an invaluable member of our management team. He has been a key and trusted adviser to both me and the Phelps family,” stated Bill Phelps. “I will continue to guide the company and help ensure long-term family ownership and operation of Joseph Phelps Vineyards.”

“This is an exciting time for the Phelps family and Joseph Phelps Vineyards, as we work through generational transition and a dynamic, changing wine space,” said Boyd. “I am thankful for the faith placed in me by Bill and his family. I am delighted to take on this new role and move this great company forward.”

Robert Boyd joined Joseph Phelps Vineyards in the spring of 2011 as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer following over a decade of both domestic and international finance and auditing responsibilities in the wine industry. A native of Scotland, Boyd is a Chartered Accountant and a graduate of Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

About Joseph Phelps Vineyards
Joseph Phelps Vineyards is a family-owned winery committed to crafting world class, estate-grown wines. Founded in 1973 when Joe Phelps purchased a former cattle ranch near St. Helena, the winery now controls and farms 390 acres of vines in Napa Valley on eight estate vineyards in St. Helena, the Stags Leap District, Oakville, Rutherford, Oak Knoll District, Carneros and South Napa. In pursuit of an ideal location to grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, in 1999 the Phelps family purchased land near the town of Freestone on the western Sonoma Coast, planted 100 acres of vineyards, and built a dedicated winery. Phelps is best known for its flagship wine, Insignia, a Napa Valley blend of red Bordeaux varieties first produced in 1974.
