PARCEL DATA UPDATE: Buyers, Prices For Monterey, San Benito & Fresno County Oil/Gas/Fracking

UPDATE 6:55 p.m., December 18:

Wine Executive News premium subscribers can access a .xlsx spreadsheet that correlates the tracts mapped out in the last pages of the BLM’s Environmental Assessment to the parcels sold in the 12/12/12 auction.

Four bidders from Bakersfield, Clovis and Colorado last week paid a total of $104,099.50 for oil and gas exploration leases on 17,832.8 acres in Monterey County wine country as well as in Fresno and San Benito Counties. (See also: Fracking Rights Auctioned Off In Monterey Wine Country, December 14, 2012))

The U.S.  Bureau of Land Management (BLM) which conducted the auction originally stated that  leases on 17,847 acres were for sale, but did not say why the actual number was slightly lower. Some confusion also exists because BLM’s environmental assessment report listed 79 tracts of land up for auction.

Those 79 tracts were combined into 15 parcels, whose leases were auctioned by the BLM on Dec. 12. Adding to the confusion is the fact that what BLM calls a “parcel”, in this case, is not equivalent to standard parcels that real estate professionals and county assessors work with routinely.

A list of successful bidders, parcel location as well as the price paid per parcel is available here for premium subscribers to Wine Executive News (WEN). Please note that BLM and WEN sale prices and averages differ because the WEN numbers include all bids and fees paid per parcel whereas the BLM numbers are just the basic bid amount.
