Cartlidge and Browne Winery Sold To Vintage Wine Estates

The Cartlidge and Browne Winery has been purchased by Vintage Wine Estates (VWE) according to VWE President Pat Roney.

Roney would not comment on the sale price, but other sources close to the deal said that was was between $4 and $6 million.

“We are pleased to have acquired such an important and well known Winery,” said Roney, “We welcome founder, Tony Cartlidge, to our team.”

Cartlidge & Browne Winery was founded in St. Helena by Tony Cartlidge and Glenn Browne. Today the winery sells approximately 100,000 cases of wine from a 100,000 square-foot facility in American Canyon at the southern end of the Napa Valley.

“We look to continue many of the outstanding things Tony has accomplished over the past thirty years in establishing Cartlidge and Brown,” said Roney.

“This starts a new chapter in my life,” said Cartlidge. “I look forward to continued growth and success. The extensive resources that VWE brings to the table will dramatically impact our ability to grow the business. We plan to continue to work with our existing grower and distributor partners.”

Roney said that Marty Peterson has been appointed as the new winemaker for Cartlidge & Browne. Marty joined Vintage Wine Estates last May and also oversees Grove Street Winery. Marty was previously with a winemaker at Treasury Wine Estates and Francis Ford Coppola Winery.

Vintage Wine Estates holdings include Girard Winery, Cosentino Winery, Windsor Vineyards, Sonoma Coast Vineyards, Grove Street Winery, Windsor Sonoma Winery and International Wine Accessories. 707 836-5000.
