Grand Harvest Awards Now Accepting Entries

Submitted By: Tara Thomas, September 06, 2012
The only wine competition in North America that is based on terroir

Santa Rosa, CA – Vineyard & Winery Management has announced that the Grand Harvest Awards is now accepting entries for 2012. Established in 1990, the wine competition is the only wine-judging event in North America that is based on terroir.

Wines are judged in the context of their viticultural region in order to accomplish two things: to recognize the complexities and nuances of regional wines, and also to measure the influence of regional soil and weather characteristics on the taste and quality of individual wines.

“Grand Harvest Awards is dedicated to its mission of recognizing outstanding wines from all over the world while simultaneously studying the effects of terroir on wine quality,” stated Bill Traverso, Director of Wine Competitions for Vineyard & Winery Management. “In this competition, terroir is highlighted as the judges taste the wines with other wines from the same appellation. With cross-regional competition removed, the inherent quality of wines can be seen without the influences that sometimes eclipse even a wine of very high quality.”

The list of judges includes top-notch wine industry and wine media professionals who take their task very seriously. A partial list of this year’s judges includes:

• Carl Brandhorst, President of the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association (ASWA)
• Wilfred Wong, Cellar Master, Beverages & more! (a.k.a. BevMo!) 121 stores and growing
• Virginie Boone, Wine Writer for the Wine Enthusiast, Santa Rosa Press Democrat and others
• Dennis Martin, VP Director of Winemaking, Fetzer Vineyards
• Dan Berger, nationally syndicated wine writer for Decanter Magazine and others
• Jeanne Burgess, Vice-President/ Director Winemaking Operations, Seavin, Inc., Florida’s largest wine growing enterprise

A discount of $10 per wine is given for online entries. Deadline for entry is October 19, 2012. Entries may be made at For information go to: Internet marketing agency The Wine Advisor is an official sponsor of this event.
