TODAY'S FEATURED WINE
Penfolds: Shiraz-Cabernet: South Eastern Australia: Winemaker's Selection: 2011: Australia
It's not a bad wine, especially for $3.99 at TJ's , but not one I want to charge against my daily alcohol and calorie ration.
I even tried drinking upside to get in sync with Down Under, but that didn't help.
And it's a branding faux pas.
Just think of the cognitive dissonance in the heads of a potential Penfolds Grange buyers. Their "trust your gut," sees $650 or $700 for a bottle as just wrong for a brand known for $3.99 wine.
There is a reason that Porsche doesn't sell a 500-cc clown car.
Sure, Grange has been a headline grabber (especially for Aussie lawmakers caught red-handed with freebies). But this 500-cc clown car and other labels effectively puts a lid on global Grange prices ... and respect for what is a dreamboat wine.
REVIEW POLICY:
For winery tasting samples, gifts from friends or family or samplings at a party or event, review it truthfully, but only if I like it. If I have paid my own very-hard-earned money on a bottle, the gloves are off and it gets what it deserves ... whether perfect or puerile.
